Creative Party Theme Ideas

Coming up with creative party theme ideas is easier than you think. Kids love birthday parties and kids love to be creative themselves, so why not do an art themed party? This allows their imaginations to run wild with the possibilities of creating something super cool.

Start with invitations that will sure to make a splash – a splash of color that is. Make your own invitations to look like an artist splattered paint on it. Maybe even cut it out in the shape of an artist pallet – and print the actual invitation over it. Also continue the art theme on the envelopes by splattering a bit of paint over them too.

Stand an art easel outside the door announcing the birthday party. If you want to be even more creative use colored chalk to decorate your driveway and/or porch with cute and colorful birthday sentiments. Decorate the inside with paintings or drawings that the birthday person created. You can even get their friends to donate some of their own created art work.

Have colorful balloons and streamers to continue the theme. You can pick up brightly colored plates, cups and napkins and most any discount store.

The activities for an art themed party are super fun for kids. Here are a few ideas:

-Art mural. Have every guest take a turn with paints and colored pencils in making a birthday art mural. Place a large canvas in the room and have plenty of paints (better use washable paints) and pencils. Might even have some old shirts or coverings for each child to wear while painting.

-Sculpture game. Each person gets a turn being the sculpture – and they pose and the others guess what they are. Or 2 can do it – one the person who sculpts and one the clay – and the others guess what they are doing.

-Make jewelry. Jewelry kits are sold everywhere – or even gather up string or twine and items that can be strung like washers, cereal – pasta and make jewelry.

-Paint masterpieces. Buy some small items like small canvases, jewelry boxes, hat boxes, etc and have the guests to paint them up – then they can take them home as a party favor.

-Tissue Paper Flowers. These are fun to make – and easy too. Items needed are tissue paper, pipe cleaners, tape, shoe polish, and bottles to use as vases. Make bouquets of flowers.

-Glue projects. Have some construction paper and find items that kids can glue to them like pasta, paper clips, cut out pieces of paper – pipe cleaners, feathers…etc.

Near the end of the party have an art show allowing the kids to display their creations for one another to see. Creative party theme ideas are a lot of fun for children of all ages. And don’t forget the cake – make the cake to look like an artist pallet by using different colored icings and candles. The key to this is by using a lot of different colors. It’s bright and fun.
